It is used to decrease the amount of thyroid hormones produced by the thyroid gland in people with an overactive thyroid gland, also known as hyperthyroidism.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. You'll need to have regular blood tests to check your thyroid hormone levels, and your dose will be adjusted as needed. On rare occasions carbimazole can cause problems with your blood cells, so you need to tell your doctor immediately if you develop a sore throat, mouth ulcers, bruising, fever or feel generally unwell. Do not donate blood while taking carbimazole and for at least two years after stopping treatment. Some products tht may interact with this drug are Aminophylline, Amiodarone, Digoxin, Prednisolone.
The most common side effects are feeling sick, upset stomach, headache, joint pain, skin rash and itching.
